President Letter - May 2011 |
The Mother
I have at home a little statue of Mary with her son in her arms.
But she doesn’t hold him, near her bosom or shoulder as in all images that the marian iconography offers us. The Children is on the back respect to Her: with his little hands turned in front and the small legs ready “to go”.
With an arm the mother holds the waist of the Children to offer him safe and support.
I say to my nephews that ask to me where the little Jesus want to go: “To play with you”.
Yes, Jesus wants to go… towards you, towards me, towards everybody.
He wants to get off from the mother womb to go through the streets of this world. Our streets, sometimes difficult and dangerous, full of misery or desert, where the disoriented humanity go without a target. He wants to show us a street supported by actions of justice, of solidarity, of peace, of happiness, of purity. For a life that is worth to live.
Teacher of all the mothers, Maria teaches us the more correct behavior with sons.
The son is not for herself and we cannot hold to the waist for all the life: his place is the world.
If he is not able to go alone (the legs are too fragile, the thorns of the way, the mud of the street) it needs hold him around the waist to avoid he falls down, he hurts, he covers with mud.
But, when he arrives to a right autonomy needs he flies as the little birds from the nest.
He has always the smile of his mother if she was able to contaminate. He has a bag full of values that inspire him in his choices. He has a positive behavior respect to the life, to the people, to the events.
I wish all of you and to myself “to live” Mary in the daily life to be ready in the “strong” moments of the life and to tell YES with a deep adhesion to the God Plan.
With motherly love…
Yours Carolina
